Ode to Willie

Willie, my 15 year old dachshund died yesterday. He had been with us since before Maggie was born. I gave him to Shawn his first birthday he and I were a couple. He was Shawn's dog until he eventually came to live with Peter and me in our house in Texas. He had been fading all winter and began refusing food on Wednesday. It became obvious to us that he was ready to go. I wasn't there because I am in Austin at a music therapy conference, but Peter and Maggie were with him to ease him over the bridge. The sweet little guy with his alf like look will be missed.

Workout number 7

I'm officially in week one of my Never Say Diet full body makeover. I started last week but didn't take measurements or weigh officially till this week. I'm down 2 pounds from last week (according to the Wii fit) Wii fit said I lost my weight too fast, but I know I was a little water heavy to start with, so I pretty much ignored the Wii. I'm to work out 5 days per week for 30 minutes every day before worrying about what I'm eating. However, I am making modifications to my diet and writing my food down as much as possible. I'm making good choices, but I'm also trying to be realistic about the bad choices. I know they will occasionally happen.

This week I have my music therapy conference in Austin. I have realized that it will be hard to work out on Thursday due to the schedule, so I may have to skip it and work out on Saturday instead. I'm sure the hotel has a work out room for me to do that. it's a nice hotel, so I can't imagine not having a workout room. I don't want to give myself any excuses not to workout.

Food

We went out to a burger joint we like. Maggie and Peter both ordered burgers, but it didn't sound good to me at all. So I ordered the goat cheese and tortilla salad and added grilled chicken. I asked for the dressing on the side, but it was delivered with the dressing on it. Not sure how much that did me in, but I figure a salad with chicken, red peppers, apples, avocado, etc has to be better for me and my brain that a burger and fries. I was really proud of myself. I didn't even struggle with the choice.

Exercise day 3

Today I got up again and did my 30 minute workout with Maya. I am even considering bumping up to 45 minutes a few days per week so I can get a full cardio workout three days along with the specific body area work. Not really ready to do that yet, but in another week or two I think I will.

I have replaced drinking coffee and looking at the computer first thing with a cup of hot tea and a work. Not a bad trade off!

I couldn't ride Liberty yesterday b/c when I rode him Tuesday I got a lead rope stuck under the saddle and I made a bruised spot in his back. He didn't complain the whole time I rode him so I didn't know anything was wrong. Poor guy! I did get his feet trimmed though and played with him for awhile, so that was nice.

Maggie had a good round pen session with Dixie. She had her really paying attention and doing what she wanted. I was really proud of her.

We were going to ride today, but Maggie has a cold, so we're chilling at home.

Women of faith and exercise

My mom invited me to attend the Women of Faith conference this past weekend in KC, MO. I had a great time. It was really inspirational.

She also gave me a book calle Never Say Diet which I have begun to use already. I bumped my 15 minutes of excercise up to 30 the last two mornings. I am sore but proud.

Getting in the Routine of Daily exercise

I made a commitment the first of the year to get busy exercising. I started exercising almost every day and have stuck with it, increasing my frequency and intensity. I was really frustrated at first because I steadily gained from the time I started working out until just this week. When I took my fitness evaluation today I had lost inches where I needed to and gained some in my biceps, so that was positive. I also increased my push ups and my sit ups. I still can't do jumping jacks for very long though. I'm continuing 5 days per week at 15 minutes, though I may begin to bump it up to 30 on days when I have time or add in some wii fit or the stationary bike...I can watch TV in the am if I ride the bike, but not otherwise. I'm really proud of myself. I still weigh too much, but it's a start.
